A look into the PE classroom
Let’s take a look inside our classroom to see what the students have been up to!
Here the students are working on balance. They had to hop on 1 foot through the small rings, walk forward and backwards on the balance beam, and jump with 2 feet over hurdles. There are also orange cones where the students practice skipping while following them to the next station.
Here we have a class playing exercise tag. We use the tag game to get them moving, get their heart rate up, and when they are tagged, they go to a square and do the exercise or stretch for that round. After 3 minutes, we pause, breath, get new taggers and go again! We change it up the exercises to try to hit on different muscle groups.
What’s a PE class without a little of juggling! We use scarves to practice using our dominant and nondominant hands by tossing and catching the scarves. We also add some combinations in it to make it fun and more challenging. Toss-clap your hands-catch, toss-touch your knees and catch, toss-roll your arms and catch…… you get the idea.
And finally we have our directional jumps! Take a look at the cones beside the hoops. Notice they are turned in different directions. The students must jump and turn-twist their body's to land into the next hoop facing the direction of the cone. The faster they do it, the more important balance plays a part in this activity. This is a station we use in one of our tag games, we call it Station Tag. The students starts out playing tag, and when they are tagged, they must go to the station and do the activity. Each time we play the game, the station changes.
Thank you for dropping in with me to take a look into our class. Come back soon to see what we are up to!
