A special visitor!
Last Friday, our Lower School Choir received a very special visit from a professional musician! Rachel Priday is a violinist from Seattle, Washington. She was in Texarkana this past weekend as a guest soloist for the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra. She chatted with our students about the violin, how she got started as a musician, and played some pieces to show off her instrument. She even played a selection that was written especially for her! That one was my favorite! It was amazing how quickly her hands and bow moved. How lucky are we that we get to have guests that help us dive deeper into the world of music.
Meeting and listening to real musicians is important for elementary students because it helps them learn about music in a fun and meaningful way. Students can discover different instruments, musical styles, rhythms, and sounds while learning how musicians share their feelings and ideas through music. By watching live performances and asking questions, students can develop listening skills, creativity, curiosity, and an appreciation for music. They can also learn about practice, patience, teamwork, and the importance of never giving up when learning something new. Meeting real musicians can inspire students to explore their own musical interests, build confidence, and understand that music is a way to express themselves and connect with others.
A huge thank you to Andrew Clark and Maestro Mann from the Symphony for allowing us the opportunity to meet and learn from such an amazing artist!
