Monkey Drums!

This week in music our Primary classes got to play the drums! These drums are called Djembes and they are from Africa. We learned how to take care of the drums and learned patience with our resting hands. The Monkey Drum song was a fun way to help us play together and work on our counting!

While playing the djembes, they develop a variety of important skills through music and hands-on exploration. Playing the djembe helps strengthen fine and gross motor skills as children use their hands and arms to create different sounds. It also supports hand-eye coordination, listening, concentration, memory, and the ability to follow simple rhythms and patterns. Group drumming encourages social skills such as sharing, taking turns, listening to others, and participating together. Children can also develop communication, creativity, confidence, and emotional expression as they experiment with sounds and create their own rhythms. Overall, djembe play provides a fun and engaging way for young children to learn through movement, music, and social interaction!

We had a lot of fun!
