Nursery Rhyme Time
Hickory , Dickory , Dock
We had a blast with a mouse this week! The students chanted Hickory, Dickory , Dock as they moved the mouse up and down the clock. As the class listened to and used rhyme, rhythm and repetition their early literacy skills were increased.
Rhymes help children articulate words, modulate voices ( practicing pitch and volume ) and enunciate clearly by repetition.
Old McDonald - Obj. 34 Explores musical concepts and expression
An important rule for playing musical instruments is to learn the resting position. Controlling impulses is part of building self- regulation.
Benefits of Old McDonald
Vocabulary expression - Children learn names of different farm animals and their sounds
Verbal expression - Singing along builds confidence in speaking and articulation
Social interaction - Singing in a group builds a sense of belonging and teaches children to listen to others
Handwriting without tears - Big line and little line
We used a big line and and little line to form the letter L this week. This is a fun way for the class to learn letter names and good habits for writing letters later on.

Obj. 17 Demonstrates Knowledge of print and its uses
We made black bean and corn salad this week. The children learned that print has meaning. As we made the salad the children learned to take turns and follow a recipe.
