Body Percussion
The past couple of weeks Kindergarten has been exploring Body Percussion. Through body percussion, students learn the basics of rhythm, coordination, and listening in a fun and active way. By clapping, tapping, stomping, and patting different parts of their bodies, they begin to understand how sounds can be high or low, loud or soft, and fast or slow. These playful activities help young children develop focus, memory, and motor skills while expressing themselves creatively. Working together in group rhythms also teaches them cooperation, turn-taking, and how to listen to others. Overall, body percussion helps kindergarten students build a strong foundation for musical learning while supporting their physical, social, and emotional growth.
We ended our unit with an activity where students created their own body percussion song. Through music composition, kindergarten students learn to express their ideas and feelings creatively using sounds and rhythms. They develop listening skills, memory, and the ability to recognize and create simple patterns. Composing music also encourages teamwork, confidence, and imagination while strengthening their understanding of basic musical concepts.
