Persuasive Speeches
The past three weeks we have been working on persuasive speeches in our 8th grade speech class. Each student chose a topic and began the creation process. The next class we went through our workshops. This process allows the student to present their speeches multiple times to different classmates and receive constructive criticism. The last workshop they do is with me. I give them feedback that will help them be successful during their presentations next class. During our final class for the unit, each student gets up and present their speeches to the class. They all did a fantastic job and were very persuasive!
Writing and presenting persuasive speeches is important because it helps people share their ideas clearly and convince others to think or act in a certain way. While working on these speeches, students learn useful skills such as researching information, organizing their thoughts, and building strong arguments. They also practice speaking with confidence, using eye contact, clear voices, and good body language. Persuasive speaking teaches students how to understand their audience and choose the best words and examples to connect with them. Overall, it helps improve communication, critical thinking, and confidence—skills that are helpful in school and in everyday life.
Next up, demonstrative speeches!
