Poetry Cafe

A poetry cafe is a fun and cozy place where people share poems! Imagine a room with soft lights, comfy chairs, and maybe some music playing quietly in the background. People take turns reading poems they have written or poems they love. Everyone listens closely and claps to show their support. We had a coffee bar and snacks! It was memorable to hear creative words, feel different emotions, and listen to their Own ideas through poetry.

Book Character Day

Book Character Day in elementary school is a fun event where kids get to dress up as their favorite characters from books! You can pick a character you love, like a brave hero, a magical wizard, or even a funny animal. Then, you dress up in a costume that matches how the character looks. This St. James tradition is a great way to celebrate books, use your imagination, and share your favorite stories with friends!

All-Hands-On-Deck!

Do you remember those typing classes in high school?! In 3rd grade, here at St James, typing skills are developing! In addition to our cursive handwriting curriculum, Keyboarding Without Tears, provides students the opportunity to learn how to navigate a keyboard, teach proper typing techniques, and assesses words typed per minute, keeping data throughout the school year!

“Blind Taste Test”

Continuing our study of our 5 senses, students participated in a blindfolded taste test. They had an absolute blast guessing the food by using their sense of taste.

Food items tasted: lemon, Granny Smith apple, beef jerky, peach flavored gummy ring, Hot Tamale candy

Beef jerky & peace rings were the favorites! 😋

✏️School Is Back In Session📚

Hello! Welcome to our 3rd grade page! This year is going to be so.much.fun!! We are soaring through the second week of school and getting into the groove of classroom expectations, routines, and remembering our schedule😉

Sensing The World Around Us: Mystery Grab Bags, Sense of Touch

Without looking, students predicted the item inside the bag. Afterwards, they recorded the physical properties of that item. At first, some were apprehensive to blindly put their hand inside a bag. Once they believed that I did not put anything ALIVE in ANY bag, the investigation took off! Overall success! 👍🏼👍🏼

With many fun adventures ahead, this class is ready for it! Go Spartans!

Until next time ✌🏼 Mrs. Burkes
