GOODBYE OCTOBER, WE WILL MISS YOU!

~3rd Grade Cabbage Program~

Our class, along with many 3rd graders around the state of Texas, received cabbage plants on Oct. 24th. Bonnie Plants is an agriculture program that encourages students to participate by growing and caring for their own cabbage plant. At the end of the growing season (8-10 weeks), each student will submit an image of themselves with their cabbage. The "Best In Class" winner will be eligible for a chance to win a $1,000 scholarship and statewide recognition!

~The Human Body: The Skeletal System~

Students studied this particular body system to learn how these parts work together and keep an organism healthy. An understanding of how our bodies work can raise awareness of our own health, leading us toward safe and healthy practices.

CALLING ALL NATURE LOVERS

With cooler temperatures, we took every opportunity to take our lessons outdoors! The students and I welcomed Fall by participating in a nature scavenger hunt. They introduced me to the Nature Trail where we found many unique leaves to create leaf art animals!

I introduced Reader’s Theater this month. The students absolutely loved it and asked to perform for the 1st and 2nd graders!!! By incorporating Reader’s Theater into our learning, students develop fluency through repeated practice reading scripts. This also improves expression and inflection while reading aloud.

WELCOME TO OUR THIRD GRADE CLASSROOM
SB1.jpg

What a busy and fun 1st week of school it was! We played many “get to know you” games and Mrs. Burkes learned many things about us, too! We learned how to write a friendly letter using the words;  heading, greeting, body, closing and signature. Our class wrote a friendly letter to the Second graders next door and then delivered the letter ourselves! We’re very excited for a wonderful year.
