Sweetest Time of the Year 🤍

Grandparents’ Day

Today we celebrated the love, patience, and laughter that grandparents give so freely. The entire school put on a wonderful performance, but I’m biased when I say that 2nd grade shined brightest during theirs. What a wonderful way to kick off winter break.

Happy Grandparents Day to the ones who make life a little softer and a lot more special. 💛

Valentine’s Day Party

Sweets, laughter, and all the fun was had at our Valentine’s Day Party.

Learning in a WINTER WONDERLAND

BRR! What a month JANUARY has been!

Our 2nd graders kicked off the month with a perfect blend of movement, math, and milestone celebrations. The classroom was buzzing with energy as students participated in a Solve the Room activity focused on double‑digit subtraction. Clipboards in hand, they traveled around the room solving problems, checking their work, and building confidence with every equation. This active approach kept them engaged, encouraged collaboration, and turned math practice into an exciting scavenger hunt of learning.

As if that weren’t enough excitement, we also celebrated a major milestone—the 100th Day of School! Students practiced grouping and counting by tens as they sorted Fruit Loops by color, creating neat piles of ten before stringing them into colorful, tasty 100th‑day necklaces. This hands-on activity reinforced place value, skip counting, and sorting skills while giving students a fun (and delicious) keepsake to enjoy during snack time.

It was the perfect combination of academic growth and joyful celebration—exactly what makes 2nd grade such a magical year.

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

Our Lower School Candlelight was nothing short of magical. The students filled the room with beautiful Christmas songs, their voices blending together in a way that truly captured the heart of the season. It was a special moment to pause, reflect, and celebrate the true reason for the season as a school community.

After the performance, the celebration continued in our classroom with a festive Christmas party. The children decorated cookies with plenty of sprinkles, sipped warm hot chocolate, and cozied up in their pajamas for a Christmas movie. Laughter, music, and the sweet smell of frosting filled the room—creating memories we’ll all cherish.

It was the perfect way to wrap up our holiday festivities and head into the break with full hearts and joyful spirits.

Halloween Fun!

🎃 Halloween Fun in 2nd Grade!

Our class had a blast celebrating Book Character Day! Students came dressed as their favorite characters, showing off their creativity and love for reading. From magical heroes to silly storybook stars, it was a joyful parade of imagination.

We also joined the middle school for Trick or Treat the Trail, where students walked through a festive path filled with treats, decorations, and friendly faces. It was a wonderful way to build community across grade levels.

To top it all off, we stirred up some spooky fun by making Witch’s Brew—a hands-on activity that blended sensory play, sequencing, and a dash of Halloween magic. The giggles and excitement were contagious!

Halloween in 2nd grade was full of fun! Delicious Donuts, Witch's Brew, Trick or Treat the Trail, and much more. Please take a look!

FALL FUN in 2nd Grade!

Habitat Dioramas

Our students did an incredible job on their habitat projects—their creativity, research, and presentation skills truly shined. I'm so proud of the effort and enthusiasm they brought to this learning experience.

Community Service

Second-grade students participated in a meaningful service activity with first-grade students. Students are teaming up to provide a "Front Porch Spruce Up" for Texarkana's non-profit For the Sake of One. For the Sake of One provides services before, during, and after foster care. Our classes trimmed shrubs, picked weeds, and planted fall color in the front flower beds for the FSO building.
