T is for trash

WHAT DO PEOPLE THROW AWAY? WHERE DOES THE TRASH GO?

We located the trash bin for the school and we were amazed the amount of trash inside it.

SORT THE TRASH

The class used items that would have been thrown in the trash for a math activity. Each child had to sort the paper and plastic and put it in the correct tub.

FROG EGG SLIME

This activity helped your child understand the life cycle of a frog.

COUNT AND POUR

We had to measure our ingredients to make frog slime. The children were amazed as we mixed glue, baking soda and contact solution to make slime.

A special thank you to Fowler's dad and Rebel for giving us a WOW moment! Dogs love balls and we were thrilled to have Rebel come to school.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF WE POUR VINEGAR ON BAKING SODA?

I wanted to find a way for the children to remember the letter V. I decided to let the class make a volcano. We had a blast! As the vinegar touched the baking soda our volcano erupted!

During this activity the children had to close their eyes while I took one ball away. The children could not wait to open their eyes and tell me what ball was missing. Our memory skills are improved as we play this game.

THE EASTER STORY

Resurrection eggs are plastic eggs that have symbols inside them. As the eggs were opened the story of Easter came alive.

The students had a blast with a math activity this week. We learned about tally marks. Tally marks are a way to keep up with information. We used tally marks to determine which balls we had more of.

Each child blew through a straw to move their ball. We determined that a light ball will travel farther than a heavy ball.

Mrs. Lisa is a retired teacher from St. James and we were thrilled to have her read for the class. After the story it was time to dance a jig. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

The Ball Unit

What do we know about balls?

The children are excited about this new unit. We will be discussing different types of balls. Balls are used for work and balls are used for play. Please let your child bring a ball that bounces to school this week.

Ball Art

We used three different types of balls to create a masterpiece.

The Tooth Fairy reminded us to brush our teeth.

It is important to see your dentist two times a year and brush your teeth two times a day. The class learned that our teeth need healthy food. We had a blast with this lesson!

Fantastic February

What happens inside buildings?

The St. James Post Office was the place to be this week. The children loved writing letters and making deliveries. The post office activity was a wonderful way to practice name recognition.

Emergent Writing Skills

You've got mail!

We wrote notes to our friends and we walked to the mailbox to mail them. Each child told me what to write on their card and I had a blast putting their words on paper. Your child will be getting a card from a friend soon.

Our Valentine Party

We had a wonderful time at the party. The students passed out valentines and enjoyed a delicious cookie. The dancing at the party was fabulous! Thank you to Mrs. Starks for providing the cookies.
