FALL FASHION SHOW AND HALLOWEEN FUN
I was thrilled with the children's performance during the Fall Fashion Show. Each child was wonderful!!!
SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADE PUMPKIN PATCH
The primary classes were invited to visit the seventh and eighth grade pumpkin patch this week. The older students grew pumpkins for the school. As the children toured the pumpkin patch they learned a song, planted seeds ,picked a pumpkin, and listened to a story that was written by a seventh or eighth grade student. The older students dressed like a character in the book they wrote. We had a blast! A special thank you to Mrs. Nicole Ayers for putting together a wonderful trip to the pumpkin patch for us.
INTERACTIVE READ - ALOUD
An interactive read -aloud is where the class is actively engaged in listening and talking about the text throughout the duration of the story. We had a great time!! We loved ,The Little Old Lady Who was Not Afraid Of Anything.
THIS IS THE WAY WE WASH OUR CLOTHES!
This week the children had a great time washing clothes in our sensory bin. We learned that when we wash our clothes we are taking care of them. Sensory play may calm, focus, and engage a child. The sensory bin was the place to be this week!
FIRE SAFETY
We were thrilled to have a visit from the Texarkana Ar. Fire Dept. The children learned about special clothing that keeps a fireman safe. A special thank you to Mrs. Carla for helping set up this event.
The children had a blast as they learned who does and does not work at our school! We enjoyed a book about the Gingerbread Man during this lesson. As I read the book a note fell out, it was from the Gingerbread Man. He left clues for us to try and find him. We followed clues and we talked to other teachers on our campus. The class determined that he does not work at our school. As we searched for him we learned how to work as a group and follow instructions. He was too fast for us to catch, but he left us a delicious cookie. A special thank you to Mrs. Katlyn Gunter for providing us with the cookie and to Gabbi who played the part of the Gingerbread Man.
COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
Each year the students at St. James help our community with a service project. This year we took in donations of books for the Texarkana Public Library. We had the support of every class on our campus. The primary classes were thrilled to say that we donated over five hundred books to our local library. The highlight of our project was a visit from Mother Goose. She stopped by to read us a story and stress the importance of literacy.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS
This week we jumped with two feet together, walked on a balance beam ,and went under a limbo stick. P. E was a blast!
LETTERS AND NUMBERS
The students loved using play-doh and wikki stix to make the letter E and number three!
Stayed tuned for more primary news!

WHAT ARE OUR RULES?
This week we talked about our school rules. Rules keep us safe in the classroom and on the playground. We talked about rules for children and rules for adults. We learned about a little girl named Mary and her lamb. Mary’s lamb had to follow rules too.
LET’S PRETEND
Everyone had a blast pretending to be Mary or her little lamb. As your child pretends they are using great social skills and expanding their vocabulary
Letter L is for Lamb. The class used a big line and a little line to form the letter L. We talked about the sound letter L makes. During an art activity, we used our fine motor skills as we pinched cotton balls and glued them to our lamb.
A VISIT FROM MARY - A WOW MOMENT!
The children were amazed to see Mary and her lamb at our school! A special thank you to Boogie Brown and her mother Ashley. Boogie was in my class a few years ago and I was thrilled when she came for a visit! Boogie pretended to be Mary and she helped the children understand that everyone has to follow rules. She has taken care of this lamb since birth and Boogie is a blessing to St.James.
OUR FEELINGS
Little Miss Muffet
The children loved taking turns wearing the spider hat and pretending to be Miss Muffet. Dramatic play builds comprehension skills by allowing children to act out familiar stories and rhymes. The children loved acting and making videos. This activity helped us think of other people and things they might be scared of.
OBJECTIVE 22 - COMPARES AND MEASURES
We used our math skills as we counted, measured, and compared our ingredients to make black bean and corn salad. I put the recipe on the dry erase board and we followed the directions carefully. As we followed our recipe the class learned that print is important and words have meaning. We were glad to have our friends from Mrs. Amanda's class join us for this wonderful activity!
See you soon,
Mrs.Diane
