Music Class 10/17

The students have been very productive in music class.  They are making beautiful music with voice, instruments, and hand-made instruments.

The 6th grade classes have been practicing the ukulele.  They have learned all the notes to the C major scale.  They are practicing pieces such as "Oh Susanna" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". They will be performing "Ode to Joy" in chapel soon.  It will be the prelude for the day.

The 5th grade students completed a unit on the Orchestra instruments.  They can categorize each instrument into their appropriate instrument family.  They also can recognize the instruments by sound. They created seating charts to classify the instruments.  They also created finger puppets to identify the instruments in the story "Peter and the Wolf". They will be playing the drums the remainder of the grading period.

The 4th grade students are playing the recorders.  They are participating a reward system called "Recorder Karate".  This way, they earn a colored belt once they have conquered a piece. They are attaching the belts to the end of their recorders.  They will be playing "When the Saints Go Marching In" on Nov. 2nd at Chapel.  This will be played as a prelude to the service.

Third grade students are practicing the recorder.  They are learning notes "B", "A", and "G". They take turns playing solos in class.  They have practiced pieces such as "Lullaby", "Three Lines for Smooth Fingers", and "Merrily We Roll Along". They have also created hand-made instruments such as shakers and castanets.

First and Second grade students have been practicing songs in class.  They have such sweet voices.  They have been singing, "Every Witch Way", "The Bare Necessities", and "She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain". They are also learning the rhythm of the pieces using percussion instruments such as tambourines, maracas, and wood blocks.

Kindergarten, Pre-K, and Primary classes have been singing a lot of movements songs. "London Bridge", "Five Monkeys in a Tree", and "A Tisket a Tasket" are a few favorites. This gives the children an opportunity to dramatize the pieces.  They are also able to create their own motions.

Choir Classes are getting ready for Veterans Day and Candlelight.  They have been singing many choral anthems and hymns.  The students auditioned for solos, duets, and trios.  The results will be revealed on Tuesday October 31st.
